The Queen Elizabeth is turning her fleet of state cars green – by switching to eco-friendly LPG fuel

Her two Bentleys, a Daimler and a taxi cab which Prince Philip uses for London engagements have already been changed from petrol to liquefied petroleum gas. And she wants the rest of the of the official royal cars to be switched as soon as possible to lead by example and help save the environment..

A royal insider said “As soon as she heard about LPG she asked “Why does one not yet have this?” and demanded the cars she uses most regularly were converted”

Manufacturers say LPG reduces fuel bills by up to 50%. The conservation group, Friends of the Earth, said ”It is great that the Royal Family are doing something for the environment””. LPG burns more cleanly than petrol or diesel and dramatically reduces exhaust pollution. It is about half the price of conventional fuel. It costs around ?2,000 to convert a vehicle – and government grants are available. At present over 1200 UK garages stock the gas.
